Crew

The crew at Port Townsend Sails has more than 80 years combined experience in the marine trades, 50 of which were full time sail making. Crew members have cruised their own vessels, lived aboard, sailed locally and afar, and currently have two pilots, two riggers, a canvas worker, a shipwright, and an arborist amongst their crew.
The crew prides themselves in providing sailors with outstanding cruising sails that are designed and built for longevity, durability, and performance.
Erica Georgaklis
Erica grew up boating in New England, and has sea miles on the coast of Mexico and the UK. She raced dinghies through her local yacht club and high school, and continued time on the water while attending college in Maine. After moving west, she lived aboard a beloved wooden sloop, Blossom, cruising locally for eleven years. In 2017 she landed in Port Townsend and joined Hasse & Co. / Port Townsend Sails, learning directly from Carol Hasse and her team. She is inspired by the craft—whether working on the loft floor, collaborating with the talented PTS crew, or fitting a sail with a client on their vessel. Erica has overseen sales and design for the past five years and stepped into leadership of the sail loft in 2023. Outside the loft, Erica and her two sons are often found exploring their homestead in the woods, adventuring aboard their Folkboat, or building sandcastles on the beach.
Megan Hudson
Megan moved to Port Townsend from Santa Cruz in 1997 and joined Port Townsend Sails in 2001. New to sailmaking, she learned under Carol Hasse and a crew of seasoned sailmakers who shared decades of knowledge and craft. Starting with handwork, Megan soon found her niche in light-air sails and inlays. She loves being part of a team dedicated to building sails of the highest quality—sails that carry customers to every corner of the world. Outside the loft, Megan spends her time swimming in the Hood Canal, paddleboarding, and exploring in her 16-foot Whaler, and occasionally joins friends for longer passages from Juneau to Ballard or Cabo San Lucas to La Paz.
Ursula Swantner
A Port Townsend native, Ursula returned home after ten years in Seattle, where she worked in boatyards specializing in paint and varnish. She later ran her own canvas business before joining Port Townsend Sails in 2020. Working alongside the crew has been a welcome change from years of solo work. Ursula focuses on sail repairs and enjoys the freedom to find creative solutions for sails that still have life left in them. The variety of projects that come through the loft keeps her engaged and satisfied. Outside the loft, Ursula loves being on her bike and living close to the water.
Natalie Urbina
Natalie grew up in Southern California and first came to Port Townsend to work on a farm in 2020. After a couple of seasons farming, she was ready for a new challenge. Drawn to making things by hand and inspired by the local maritime community, Nat joined Port Townsend Sails and learned the art of sailmaking on the job. For the past two and a half years, she has enjoyed seeing each project come to life, building sails from start to finish and taking pride in the details that complete them. Outside the loft, she surfs the cold waters of the Pacific Northwest, tends her community garden, makes jewelry, and helps care for her communal sheep.
Alison Wood
Alison grew up sailing the intracoastal waterways of South Carolina and moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1999. By 2004 she and her husband had found their forever boat, a Downeast 32 cutter-rigged sailboat, Juichi, that became their home for 13 years. Working on the vessel themselves led Alison to a two-year rigging apprenticeship with Brion Toss and, in 2008, to Port Townsend Sails. As manager of the repair department, she takes pride in finding the best way to “Hasse-fy” every sail. Outside the loft, she spends her time in the garden or out biking, sailing, or hiking on the Olympic Peninsula. Her favorite cruising grounds are along the west coast of Vancouver Island, with its hot springs and quiet anchorages.
