Repairs
Port Townsend Sails offers a thorough assessment of your sail, including the projected life of the sailcloth, measurements, and a detailed bid of recommended repairs.
We pride ourselves on communication and ensure your sail inventory is receiving the best repairs, upgrades, or maintenance required to meet your cruising plans within your budget.
Some of our most common repairs:
- Two plying the leech of a sail. The trailing edge of your sail takes the most abuse between flogging and UV. Adding a layer of comparable fabric will significantly prolong the life of your sail.
- Replacing UV covers. Restitching or fully replacing a sacrificial UV cover with chafe protection and reef marks.
- Re-webbing slides and re-seizing hanks. Done by hand using a palm and needle, this is a solid way to attach your hardware, making your sails easier to hoist and drop and keeps wear on the hardware to a minimum.
- Reinforcing corner attachments. Anywhere your sail is attached to the boat it is critical to secure the safe working loads of the sail.
- Re-stitching. Both seams and patches can add years to the life of a sail.
- Sail Cleaning. Keeping your sail clean from salt build up, mold, and mildew will prolong the life of our sailcloth. We work closely with Clean Sails on Bainbridge Island to coordinate repairs and cleaning.
Port Townsend Sails is dedicated to ensuring our customers are self-sufficient in the handling, care, and maintenance of their sails.
All surveys are conducted at a flat-rate fee in our loft. We offer to help clients unbend and rebend on sails, as well as consult on their personal sail inventory.
